Net Zero 2050

UK Housing

Our Purpose

In November 2008, the Climate Change Act was passed. This legally committed the UK Government to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 80% (compared to the levels in 1990) by 2050.

The commitment was increased to 100% in June 2019, thus establishing the target for the country to be 'Net Zero' by 2050.

To achieve 'Net Zero' the levels of greenhouse gases being emitted need to match those being removed, this has led to a range of schemes and policies being introduced by the government to support the transition.

At present, it is estimated that approximately 20% of the United Kingdom's greenhouse gas emissions can be attributed to energy consumption and energy loss in residential properties.

With this in mind, it is important to have an understanding of how energy is utilised to power and heat our homes.

It is equally important to be aware how effective our properties are at retaining energy, and the steps that can be taken to increase efficiency, as this is directly linked to our household finances and environmental impact.

The Retrofit Institute is dedicated to providing individuals and communities with  knowledge, guidance, and educational resources, generated by industry experts, with the aims of:

1. Increasing Energy Awareness and Knowledge

2. Reducing Energy and Water Consumption
